Habitat & Site Selection:

Common on clay and clay loam soils in relatively flat areas in a variety of vegetation types. Also found in damp areas. Prefers damp areas.

Habit:

Perennial herb with 30-40cm linear, flaccid or erect dark green leaves. Flowers purplish or yellow, (Jan-Apr).

Seed Collection:

From seed or division of bulbs. Growth improved by the application of slow realise fertiliser. Tolerates dry conditions. Resents old or poorly drained soil. Very hardy and popular as a rockery plant. For best flowering effect do not water after leaves start to yellow.
