Habitat & Site Selection:

Variable vegetation types on sandy to clay loam soils. Drought resistant. Tolerates salt and limestone.

Habit:

Greyish or tawny hairy, prostrate to ascending, short lived perennial to 30cm high and 40cm wide. Fruit hairy, except on the points of the two spines (Sep-Nov).

Seed Collection & Propagation:

All year. Propogate from seed.

Values & Uses:

Very useful in combating erosion. Protects otherwise bare soils, colonises eroded areas and shelters seedlings of less hardy species. Useful as fodder plant in bad times.
